Laser Cladding

Apollo Clad uses a variety of metal powders in the laser cladding process, depending on your needs. It may be similar to the parent material or it may provide enhanced corrosion resistance, wear resistance, or hardness.

Our lasers are capable of handling very long to very short parts-- large diameter to small-- outer or inner diameters. Our fully equipped machining department and numerous OD and ID grinders can finish any product you require.

Laser Repair

With our lasers, we can repair damaged areas, whether they are reworks in the manufacturing process or repairs to parts in service. Because of our partnership with our parent comany, Apollo Machine & Welding, we can provide unparralled comprehensive service in house. No matter how complicated, machining repairs can be completed to original standards.

For example, we are currently the only vendor worldwide to refurbish 718 Inconel drive shafts. From initial inspection through cladding, machining, grinding, finishing and final inspection, we save our customer millions of dollars a year.

With limited inventories and fiscal responsibilities, laser repairing of expensive tooling is often the right choice.  Apollo Clad is ideally suited to help customers repair rather than replace.

Laser Heat Treating

Laser heat treating involves using the laser to change the microstructure of metals through controlled heating and cooling. The laser beam, without the application of powders, selectively hardens the surface of critical areas rather than the entire part.

This targeted approach preserves the original properties to the rest of the part while effecting the desired changes in the treated area. As added advantages, laser heat treating is quicker, less expensive and does not require further annealing or normalizing. Currently, we heat treat critical surtaces on components such as driveshafts and bearings.

Clusterite and Brazing

To complement our laser hardfacing, we have the facility to apply clusterite and brazed carbide inserts. This is often an ideal option for leading edge faces on down hole tools requiring aggresive abrasion and extreme wear resistance.

Laser Welding

Laser Beam Welding uses the high energy laser beam to apply the necessary thermal energy to effect complete fusion.  The ability to focus the beam and aim it with pinpoint accuracy makes laser welding the clear choice in a wide variety of applications where other forms of welding would be problematic.

Compared to more conventional welding methods, laser welding all but eliminates distortion. It can weld smaller and thinner pieces. The heat affected zones are negligible. As well, laser welding is fast and yields highly repeatable results.
