Simply put, diamonds are the hardest material known to exist. Apollo-Clad has recently developed the process to apply diamond hardfacing to engineered components without the use of any tungsten carbide. The diamonds are held in place by a hard (+50 HRC) nickel based matrix.

Apollo-Clad Diamond Hardfacing is ideal for applications where extreme abrasion is the problem and laser clad tungsten carbide has not produced the desired results. It’s also non-magnetic (less than 1.01 µ) so it is appropriate for directional drilling applications. Due to the wear resistance of this material, it is only offered in the ‘as-clad’ condition.

How hard are the diamonds after cladding?

As hard as before cladding of course…over 10,000 HV as measured after deposition by an independent lab.
